Veterinary Surgeon Jane Parker of Clifton Villa Veterinary Surgery would like to alert all dog owners to a recent outbreak of kennel cough in the Camborne area. At least ten dogs in the Camborne area have been diagnosed with kennel cough over the past two weeks and now cases are also being seen at Truro.

    Kennel Cough Facts:

    • Kennel cough is very infectious. It is spread by direct contact , shared air space and contact with sputum from infected dogs.
    • The incubation period is 4 to 7 days
    • Clinical signs include harsh barking type cough ending with clearing of the throat and spitting frothy sputum. Some dogs have a lower exercise tolerance. Pneumonia can develop in some severe cases.
    • Annual vaccination is recommended for prevention.
